2013 - Mar 17 Travel to Rainbow Springs SP via Bushnell

We left Myakka River SP at about 11:30 this morning. It would have been about a 2.75 hour drive to Rainbow Springs, but we stopped at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell to visit my mom's grave on the way. We also stopped for gas and some supplies, so it was about 4:00 when we started setting up camp.

From what we know so far, Rainbow Springs is a pretty big park, but there are very few roads in the park. In order to get from, for example, the campground to the "headsprings" where the springs are that form the source of the Rainbow River, you have to leave the park and drive to another entrance. There is also a "Tubing Entrance," but it closed for the winter season now.

We were setting up our canopy when it started to sprinkle. The forecast is for sprinkles through tomorrow evening, so we probably won't do much walking around. We cooked a pork loin and a baked potato on the Cobb grill. Good supper!

Stay tuned for whatever comes next.
