2015 Mar 30 - The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, AL

Today, we visited Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, AL. There are over 750 motorcycles on display and 600 in storage. There is a whole bunch of race cars, including 50 Lotus cars. If you want more information about the museum and the race track that's in the same location, check it out on Google.

We got there at 10:00am as they opened the doors and toured three of the five floors that are open to the public. We went out and grabbed some lunch before coming back and checking out the other two floors. The basement, where they do restorations, etc., is closed to the public.

Just sit back and enjoy the pictures. I'll label the ones I can.

2015 Mar 29 Traveled to Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama

We drove 263 miles today to get to Oak Mountain State Park outside Birmingham, Alabama. Tomorrow, we're going to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, AL. Tomorrow's pictures should be more interesting than today's.

2015 Mar 28 Laundry, Ft. Pickens, nature trail

We had three goals for our last day at Ft. Pickens Campground: Do Laundry. Tour Ft. Pickens. Hike the nature trail. As you can see from the pictures, we accomplished our goals.

Laundry was uneventful. While the machines were running, we walked around the other loops in the campground and visited with a few people.

We toured Ft. Pickens. Construction of the fort was begun in 1829 and finished in 1834. It was built with slave labor using more than 21.5 million bricks. It was constructed to protect the country from foreign invaders, but ironically, the only military action the fort ever saw was when Confederate forces holding mainland Pensacola tried unsuccessfully to capture the fort.

After we toured the fort, we went back to the campground and walked the nature trail where we saw several ospreys.

We finished the day by the campfire.
