2013 - May 23 Tour of the Eisenhower Farm

We went to the Visitor Center to by tickets for the bus ride and tour of the Eisenhower Farm. Ike bought the place in 1950 while contemplating retirement from the presidency of Columbia University, but their move to the farm was delayed by a decade when he accepted the offer to run for president of the United States.

We stopped in town for lunch and groceries before returning to the campground. Marsha did the laundry while I took a nap. I'm feeling a bit better, but my stomach muscles are sore from coughing so much.

Dinner was at 5:30 followed by door prize drawings and the drawing of the name of the quilt winner. The quilt raffle raised $800 for the Battlefield Trust. The evening's entertainment was provided by Bil (yes, "Bil") Lepp, renowned story teller and five-time winner of the West Virginia Liars' Contest. The guy was hilarious. Google him.

It started raining pretty hard during Bil's performance, but had let up by the time we headed back to the camper. Tomorrow, we head north to Ole Bull State Park for four nights. There's no phone reception or Internet there, so it may be a while before I post again, but keep checkin'!

2013 - May 22 Tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield & Visitor Center

We took a guided bus tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield followed by launch at the Visitor Center and Museum. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and really made the battle maneuvers understandable. I'm still not feeling well, so I slept whenever we were waiting for the next venue.

It was a long day. The buses picked us up at 8:40am at the campground and picked us up at the Visitor Center for the return trip at 4:15pm.

After I napped, we threw our burgers on Loren and Cindy's grill and ate dinner with them. Then we watched the last half of the movie "Gettysburg" before returning to the camper for the night.

I'm tired. See you tomorrow.

2013 - May 21 Day two of AOC North American Rally

Yesterday, I started feeling ill. By the time I went to bed, I had a sore throat and dry cough. This morning, it was worse. Not many pictures today. I helped a couple of guys troubleshoot some problems with their campers and attended the tech session after lunch. General and Mrs. Lee stopped by for a while.

After dinner, I suffered through the first two hours of the movie "Gettysburg." Good movie, but I'm really not feeling well. Hope these drugs kick in my morning. We board a tour bus at 8:45 tomorrow morning for a guided tour of the battlefield. After that, we'll spend some time at the museum and the visitor center. Of course, we'll have lunch.

We're scheduled to be back at the campground around 4:30, so if I don't feel any better, it's going to be a loooong day!
