For some reason, we didn't do much exploring on this trip. Other than a trip into Paris, TN for beer, ice, and a few groceries, all we did was hang around the campground and visit. This rally was mostly Scamp and Casita campers, so we don't see these people very often, so it was an enjoyable time.
One thing you might find interesting is the series of pictures below showing how to cook a turkey in a garbage can and a chicken in a bucket! If you try it, be sure to start a fire in the can/bucket and burn off all of the zinc galvanization before using it to cook your bird!
I am writing this on Wednesday October 2. We arrived at Piney Campground at Land Between the Lakes National (as in Federal) Recreation Area on Monday afternoon with the possibility of the federal government shutdown going into effect at midnight. Tuesday morning the park rangers notified us that we had to vacate the park by noon the next day. We were being evicted! Not a tragedy for us and our little camper, but we were part of a rally that was expecting about fifty campers to show up over the next few days!
The rally is for small "fiberglass" campers. Most are Scamps and Casitas, but Dennis says he doesn't care if you're in a tent, as long as you enjoy camping. Dennis' Scamp is next to our Aliner in the picture below.
Dennis, the rally master sprang into action and found a KOA about ten miles down the road that said they could accommodate us and would give us a 50% rate discount. With a few phone calls and Internet postings, the rally was transferred to the new site. Isn't technology wonderful?
Just a few pics so far because most of our time has been spent setting up and tearing down our campsite(s), but stay tuned in case something else exciting happens!
