2015 Feb 27 - An afternoon at Silver Springs
Around noon, we left Silver River and drove about two miles down the road and around the corner to Silver Springs. We made it to the ticket booth at 1:00, so we missed the 1:00 boat. We bought tickets for the 3:00 tour and spent the next two hours eating lunch and walking around the grounds.

2015 Feb 26 - Hillsborough River to Silver River SP
Since it's only about 80 miles between the two parks, we took our time getting out of Hillsborough River State Park on our way to Silver River State Park. On our way thru Zepherhills, we decided to wash the big chunks of crud off of the car and the camper. By the time we left the carwash, it was almost time for lunch, so we stopped in at a Mickey D's that still had the old Golden Arches. We used the Internet while we were there.
We arrived at Silver River around 2:30. In the parking lot at the ranger station was a Honda Van from Quebec that had been converted to a rather large camper. Never seen anything like it before and the owner didn't seem to be around, so I just shot a couple of pics.
There seems to be some confusion concerning Silver Springs and Silver River. Our reservation says Silver Springs State Park. The state park booklet and the GPS say Silver River State Park. The old familiar Silver Springs attraction became a state park in October of 2013. Anyway, the part where the glass bottom boats are located is Silver Springs and the sign outside the campground says Silver River. Go figure!
After we got set up and walked around the campground, another Alto camper pulled into the site right next to us. I almost passed out! The owners are from Florida. There are less that 100 Altos registered in the USA and here they are, right next to us. It is a model R1743 which doesn't retract. It's taler than ours and the windows, as you can see, are different. It took them about 45 minutes to get backed into their site, so I think this is their first pull-behind. The pickup camper, still in their pickup, is for sale.

2015 Feb 25 - Last day at Hillsborough SP, but we got our shortcake!
Well, today was our last day at the park. We went to the Wednesday morning coffee hour then came back and hung around the camper for a while. It was really a gloomy morning.
Around noon, the skies started to clear, so we decided to go to Plant City and get some of the Smokin' Aces BBQ that we missed the other day. He was closed today, too! Probably getting ready for the Strawberry Festival which starts tomorrow. So, we grabbed some strawberry shortcake for lunch before going to Walmart to restock the pantry.
Back at camp, I started a fire to burn the remaining wood we had and cooked a couple of burgers in the process. After dinner, we stowed the canopy and gathered things up so we won't have too much to do in the rain that's forecast for tomorrow morning.
See you in Silver Springs, or Silver River, whatever they're calling it now. More on that later.

2015 Feb 24 - It Rained at Hillsborough River State Park
We didn't have anything scheduled for today, so we both slept in. Marsha made egg & sausage muffins for brunch.
We had a visitor asking about the camper, then I went down to the cafe and posted to the blog. Shortly after I got back, it started raining and didn't stop until about 5:00. We sat inside with the TV on and plotted our 2016 Florida camping schedule. We even made a reservation at Long Point Park, a county park just down the road from Sebastian Inlet, across the Intracoastal Waterway from my brother's house.
I fired up the grill around 5:00 and we had steaks for dinner. I shot a couple of pics around the campsite and that's about it for the day. Tomorrow will probably be a bit more exciting because we're headed back to Plant City to go to Smokin' Aces BBQ, then get some fresh strawberry shortcake.
