After coffee, we headed out to get gas and some supplies at Sam's Club and Walmart on our way to the beaches on Siesta Key. We were headed for the beaches at about 12:30 and I mentioned that it was time for lunch. No sooner had I spoken the words than we saw a crowd of people eating outside at and older looking restaurant. Turn's out, we had discovered the Hob Nob Drive-in, the oldest drive-in restaurant in Sarasota, so we wheeled in and enjoyed a great burger along with a lot of friendly people.
After leaving the Hob Nob, we finally got to the beaches and realized that we had made a big mistake. Why did we choose Saturday to try to take a walk on the beach? The place was packed and there was nowhere to park unless we wanted to pay $15.00. We didn't.
So, after driving around Siesta Village for a while, we headed back across the bridge. We stopped near the bridge to enjoy the view and shoot a few pictures.
Almost back to the campground, we decided to stop at the O'Brien Farm where they have 500 acres of strawberries! We had passed by this place several times, last year and this year, but never stopped in. They sell fruits and veggies that they grow on the farm, along with fresh strawberry shortcake. Deeelicious! We picked up some fresh corn on the cob and bell peppers, too.
We got back to the campground and swapped the day's experiences with Jerry and Jane. Then we took a walk down to the shore of Manatee Lake before going back to camp. We just had a snack instead of dinner. The shortcake was filling!
