2012 - Mar. 06 - Canoeing the Estero River

Today, after breakfast, we rented a canoe at the ranger station and set out to explore the Estero river, First we paddled upstream, about a mile, until the river got so narrow and shallow that we couldn't go any farther. Then we turned around and came back downstream, passing where we put in. If we had continued about 3.5 miles downstream from the park, we would have entered the Gulf of Mexico, but after we saw the manatees, we decide to head back to port. Marsha's shoulders and neck were beginning to bother her, but, true to form, she never complained. We were on the river for about two hours.

After we got back to camp, we ate the lurch we had packed, intending to eat it somewhere along the river. Then we headed out to pick up some groceries at Walmart and find a WiFi hotspot from which to post the last two days' entries. We got back to camp, started a fire, and visited with neighbors a bit before we cooked and ate our brats. After dinner, we had a visitor (see below).

Tomorrow is laundry day and for dinner, we plan to go to Skip One Seafood Restaurant, a highly recommended spot about six miles from here.

See you tomorrow!
