2014 Mar 01 - Lunch at the Prairie Diner & Stuff

One of the park rangers recommended the Prairie Place Diner, THE local restaurant, so we went there for lunch today. Good food and plenty of it! Marsha brought half of her fish po' boy back to camp.

We kind of hung around camp and visited with another Illinoisan for a while before going to the ranger presentation about the history of the area. After that was a presentation about the effects of light and light pollution on modern society.

Just before dark, I was able to get a picture of the Hubble Telescope as it crossed the sky. It was only visible for five minutes. After dark, we looked at some stars through our binoculars. It's amazing how the number of stars you can see increases using regular binoculars. The fact that it's dark, dark, dark here helps, too.

We didn't go to the Astropad where all the astronomers were set up. That's where I was last night, so it would have been more of the same and Marsha didn't want to make the walk.
