2017 Jan 28-31 - Headed to Florida via St. Marys, GA

We hit the road about 7:30 in 28 degree, but clear weather. It was pretty uneventful other than the traffic jam in Atlanta, which has been a rarity in past trips. After driving 670 miles, we stopped at our favorite overnight spot in Jackson, GA. I forgot to take a picture of our campsite, but it looks like most other Flying J truck stops.
After a good night's sleep at the Flying J, we drove down the road for breakfast at the Waffle House before jumping back on I-75. We took I-16 east at Macon and got off on route 23 to angle our way down to St. Mary's. After a 263 mile drive, we got to Crooked River State Park at about 2:30 and set up camp before Walking next door to meet Bobby & Doreen from High Springs, FL. We ended up grilling burgers with them and visiting over dinner.
On Monday, we went into town and walked around a bit and had lunch at the Riverside Cafe. We were too early to go to Seagle's Saloon. They don't open tilt 4:30. The long drive was catching up to me, so we went back to camp and I took a nap - until 7:00 Tuesday morning!
Tuesday, we walked around the campground and hiked Palmetto Trail. The pond in the pictures has a gator in it, but we didn't see it on this trip. We went into town around 3:30 and walked around until Seagle's opened at 4:30. We knew Cindy was there because her new, bright red Corvette was parked out front. She had been sick the last three years we were here, so we were glad to see her back at the top of her game, trash talking the customers as she served them drinks and food.
Tomorrow, it's on to Ft. Clinch State Park in Florida. The locals here tell me we should be there in 30 minutes. See you there!
