2014 Aug 8 - Day 17-Full Day at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

Today we left the lodge at 7:30am without breakfast for an early morning game drive. The game was kind of sparse, but we did see a magnificent male lion that made it worth our trouble. We returned to the lodge around 9:00 for a hearty breakfast before Marsha and I went exploring around the lodge compound. We were allowed to walk around unescorted during the day, but at night we had to have an escort, even from our room to the dinner area. There is no electric fencing to protect us here.

We went on another game drive at 3:00 and had about the same luck we had on the morning drive. We did go to a pool where we saw a huge school of hippos I don't know how many there were, but it was more than forty. It was interesting to watch them poop and splatter it around with their tails, fight for their position in the pool, and wallow in the soup they made. Yuck!

The sunset was a fitting end to our last day on the Serengeti. We had a nice dinner at the lodge and helped Christina celebrate her birthday. Tomorrow is the first day of travel toward home.
