2014 Aug 2 - Day 11-Sarova Mara, Flight, Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen, Amboceli Sarena Safari Lodge

CORRECTION: Earlier, I said that the Galleria Mall in Nairobi was where the terrorists killed 62 people last year. That actually happened in a mall on the other side of the city.

Today we had a game drive as we left Sarova Mara on the way to the airstrip for our flight back to Nairobi. I took a few pictures along the, the highlight of which was a pair of cheetahs lying at the edge of a herd of wildebeest.

We said good bye to Ahmed, our driver for the past six days, and left the Olkiombo Airstrip for the one hour flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Our plane wasn't large enough to accommodate our group of 19 plus our tour guide, Andrew, so 17 went on the first plane while Andrew and two group members followed closely in another plane.

A different driver and van picked us up at the airport for the drive to the giraffe Centre where they care for orphaned giraffes. We spent a short time there feeding the giraffes before going to Karen Dixon's house. She authored the book "Out of Africa," among others.

We drove about six hours to get to Amboseli National Park where we saw a large herd of elephants and several other animals before checking into the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

That drinks, dinner and bed felt really good after a very long day.
