We left St. Joseph Peninsula SP a bit after 8:00 this morning and headed for Lakewood Park on Britton Hill, outside of DeFuniak Springs, near Paxton, FL. Got that? It was the high point of our Florida tour. That's because it's the highest point in Florida - 345 ft. above sea level! After global warming melts the polar ice caps, this will probably be the only inhabitable area in the state of Florida.
After Britton Hill, it was just a lot of windshield time - a total of 510 miles of it today. We pulled into Henry Horton State Park, near Chapel Hill, TN at 6:00 and set up the camper. We stopped here on our way home from Florida on June 28, 2009, my birthday. Nice park. We've been hanging around waiting for the ranger to check us in, but he hasn't come by. Last time we were here, we ate hot dogs for my birthday dinner, so this time we are going to head for the restaurant, here in the park, and let the ranger catch us later. I'll be back.

We're back from dinner. We walked in there about 7:30 and had the place to ourselves. The food was good, but I hope tonight wasn't indicative of their normal crowd or they're losing a ton of money.
Well, enjoy the pictures, such as they are. It's 9:00 now, and I'm going to turn in early so we can make it home at a decent hour tomorrow. Looks like it could rain on us quite a bit of the way.

I didn't get a chance to post this until we got home at about 5:15PM today after a 433 mile drive. We left the park this morning at 9:00 and pretty much headed for the barn. A few rain showers between Nashville, TN and Marion, IL washed most of the pollen, salt spray and other loose stuff off of the car and the camper.
It was a great trip for us. Hope you enjoyed it!
Marsha got up early this morning and went for a walk on the beach. After I got up and took my shower, we went for another walk on the beach. Then we went to the Tradin' Post to use the WiFi.
On the way back to the campground, we went over to the cabin area which is on the bay side of the peninsula. Some people we met earlier today said we could use their boardwalk to access the bayside beach if we wanted to take a walk over there, so that's what we did. They weren't home, but we enjoyed the walk. The water was more calm than on the Gulf side, but just as windy.We met some girls pulling a cooler down the beach on a BoogieBoard. Cool!
Back at camp, we cooked dinner. Right after dinner, we were almost overrun by people wanting to take a look at the camper. After they left, we had to hurry and do the dishes so we could catch our last sunset before we leave tomorrow morning. On the way home, we're going to go to Paxton, FL. Near there is a small monument marking the highest spot in Florida.

We got up this morning and went thru our normal routine: shower, breakfast, etc., but today we added: empty the porta-potti, empty the gray water tank, do enough laundry to get us home. After all that, we headed for Apalachicola to have lunch at Boss Oyster and explore.
Boss Oyster was a neat place. After lunch, we visited a few shops and walked around a bit. Then we headed for Port St. Joe which is across the bay that is formed by St. Joseph Peninsula. It's a nice little town. They even have a McDonald's there! The Constitution Museum was close by the time we got there. Port St. Joe is where Florida's Constitution Convention was held.
After driving around Port St. Joe, we headed back to camp in time to take a little walk before heading for the beach to watch the sunset. No dinner tonight - too much lunch too late in the day. We sat by the campfire for a while and decided to go inside so I could write this post.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be our last full day here. No plans. Just enjoy this beautiful spot. Anyone who hasn't camped here should make it a destination.
