We got up this morning and decided to take a hike. We walked back to the campground entrance and turned up the trail toward the nature trail. After hiking along the bay shore for a while, the trail dumped us back onto the road leading to the rental cabins. At the end of that road was a nature preserve where we turned and hike toward the Gulf Beach. When we got to the beach, we hiked the mile or so back to the boardwalk leading back to our campground.
A lite lunch and a drive down the road for WiFi made it time to go down to Charlie & Carol's campsite for wine and cheese. Nice folks whom we met last year at Anastasia State Park and ran into here again. After that, we walked around and visited with at least four other couples from Illinois before heading for the beach to see if the sun was setting again this evening. Sure enough, it was!
We saw a dolphin out there, but I couldn't get a shot of him, so we went back to camp and sat by the fire. We were full of snacks from Charlie and Carol, so we just roasted a couple of dogs and watched the fire until it was time to call my dad, which I do every Sunday night. All's well with him, so we decided to hit the sack.
This morning we went in search of a WiFi hotspot. Four or five miles from camp is an unincorporated area of the peninsula called Cape San Blas. There is a convenience store/restaurant there called the Cape Tradin' Post where they have WiFi. So I posted the past couple of days' entries and Marsha bought a new hat.
By the time I got finished surfing the Web, and Marsha paid some bills, it was time for lunch, so we ordered a couple of burgers. We should have ordered one and split it. They were huge, but good!
On the way back to the park, we cruised thru a couple of housing areas along the Gulf Beach side of the peninsula. As we neared the park, there was access to the bay side, so we stopped there and took a few shots.
Back at camp, Marsha read her book and I went over and visited with some neighbors. We didn't plan dinner very well because it was time to eat when the sun was setting, so we missed this evening's sunset. It was worth it. Dinner was good and I'm pretty sure there will be another sunset tomorrow.
Got up this morning and saw that we had a new neighbor with a real cool folding bike. This bike might just fit our needs!
An older gentleman and his wife asked to tour our camper. He's almost 90 years old and they are camping in a tent. He said it takes them five hours to set up camp and five hours to break camp. They are looking for something more simple. He was excited about our camper. They are from Evanston, IL, so I told him to go to Danny's Campers where we bought ours. He was so fired up I thought he was going to leave this morning!
We walked down to site 85 (we're in 97) and visited with Charlie and Carol. He was sick for a while last summer, but other than that, life has been good since we met them last year at Anastasia SP! They invited us over for wine and cheese Sunday evening. We told them we'd work it into our busy schedule. ;-))
We took a long walk on the beach this afternoon. There was a guy surf fishing with two lines in the water, but the poles were about 25 yards apart. We walked past him and the first pole and as we approached the second pole, it started bouncing around. I hollered and told him he got a pretty good hit on this one. He yelled for me to set the hook. I grabbed the pole, set the hook, and started reeling. I had the fish on the beach by the time he got to me. It was a nice Whiting. First fish I've caught in years!
We got back from out walk about 5:00 and started the charcoal. Burgers, beans and chips were the fare. Really tasted good in this fresh salt air!
After the dishes were done, we walked over to the beach to watch another sunset. Then it was back to camp to stare at the fire for a while before going inside to type this blog entry. I think we're going to try to find a WiFi hotspot tomorrow, so stay tuned!
