2013 - April 24 & 25 Arrival and Day 1 at Fall Creek Falls State Park, TN

4/24:
We left Big Bone Lick at about 9:30 and drove 305 miles in the rain to arrive at Fall Creel Falls State Park, TN at about 3:30. It was still drizzling rain and getting colder by the time we got set up, so we had a nice hot bowl of soup and a sandwich before settling in for the night.

4/25:
Clark, the camp host offered to cut some wood foe our group's weiner roast, si he and I went into the woods. He cut and I stacked the wood into the back of his four-wheeler. After we dumped the wood off at our campsite, he offered his splitting maul so that I could split some of the logs. As of this writing (9:20pm), I'm still trying to find someone to use the maul.

We have intermittent phone service at the campground, but I walked to the top of a hill and got enough of a signal to get a voice message. We went to the Inn where they are closer to a cell tower and returned the call. After that, one thing lead to another and we ended up spending the afternoon driving around the park and taking in a few sights.

When we pulled over at Caplenor Point, there were a couple of trucks and a backhoe on a trailer. When we got out of the car, Larry Wells, President of Wireless Properties came up and informed us that ours was the first vehicle to use the new pull-off area that they had just finished building. He took our picture and our names to use in some advertising. I'll have to check their website to see if we're famous!

Even though the rally doesn't officially start until tomorrow, there are eleven A-Frames here already. We spent the evening visiting a few old friends and meeting some new ones. It was a nice day!

2013 - April 23 A Day at Big Bone Lick State Park, Union, KY

We got up early this morning to get to Mickey D's in time to make a reservation for eleven months from today at Oscar Scherer State Park in Florida. While we were there, we figured we might as well have breakfast, so we did. Then we went back to the park and hiked around. There is a lot of history here in the park. Very interesting place.

A bit after noon, I realized that I had forgotten to post yesterday's entry on the blog. Marsha had a coupon for a free Premium Wrap, so it was back to Mickey D's for lunch. It's only about seven miles from the park.

When we got back to camp, we did chores like emptying the porta-potti and reading a book. Guess which one I did. Then we took our showers. By that time, it was getting thirsty out, so I had a beer while I played with the new GPS a bit. A fellow camper stopped by for a while for a visit. Then we started a fire and grilled some chicken. After doing the dishes, we took a walk around the campground. That's pretty much it for the day.

Tomorrow, we're headed for Fall Creek Falls State Park (Tennessee), about 300 miles south. Enjoy the pictures.

2013 - April 22 From Carlyle Lake to Big Bone Lick State Park Near Richwood, KY

Well, yesterday Adi competed in the state floor tumbling championship. She came in 11th and wouldn't let me take her picture. Needless to say, she was disappointed because only the first ten places qualify for the national competition. But she'll be competing in the trampoline and double mini tramp at the nationals this summer in Ft. Lauderdale.

So, after the competition and saying our goodbyes, Marsha and I headed for the Best Buy in Edwardsville. Our six year old GPS died on the way to Carlyle Lake and we're so spoiled, we didn't even want to finish this trip without one. We bought a Garmin unit. It has tons more features than our old one and cost less than half the price. The gal at Best Buy even checked online and matched NewEgg's price!

This morning, we left Carlyle Lake at about 10:00 and arrived at Big Bone Lick State Park about 3:40pm. Nice park. There's a museum here that we plan to check out tomorrow, so stay tuned.

2013 - April 19 & 20 Carlyle Lake and Day 1 of Adi's State Meet

4/19:
We rolled into the Carlyle Lake Dam West Campground about 3:15 and got set up. I took a few pictures, shot the breeze with the neighbor and had a few beers. Brought some firewood from home, so we had smoked salmon, grilled over an open wood fire for dinner. We watched a little TV and drifted off to sleep fairly early.

4/20:
I got up to pee at about 3:30AM and never went back to sleep, so about 6:00, I decided to take a shower. It was 35 degrees outside and in our refrigerator. We headed for Highland at about 7:20 with a stop at Mickey D's to pick up a cup of coffee. It's about twenty miles away.

Adi's first event, trampoline was at 8:30. Double mini was at 9:30. So we hung around for her awards then watched a friend of hers for a while. Adi got third on the tramp and second on double mini. So she qualified for the nationals in those two events. Floor tumbling is tomorrow at 9:00. We'll see how that goes.

More later.
