2017 Jan 04 - 05 Travel to New Orleans and our first day there

This trip didn't start out very well. We were to get to New Orleans to meet our friends, Jim & Bonnie, from Minneapolis at about 8:00pm. We were late boardng, then our plane sat on the end of the runway in Springfield for 22 minutes due to an air traffic delay somewhere along our route to Dallas. Because of the delay, we missed our connecting flight in Dallas and had to catch a later flight. We got to the Banana Courtyard B&B in New Orleans around 11:00pm. After checking in and unpacking, we got to bed around 1:00 Thursday morning. Hope things go better from here.

We met Jim and Bonnie for breakfast at 9:00 then set out on our walk to explore the French Quarter. First stop was the French Market, kind of like a big flea market that runs every day. We spent some time at the French Market, then walked down the street to the Cafe Du Monde for coffee and beignets.
Then it was across the street to Jackson Square to look at the artists' work, watch the street performers, and check out St. Louis Cathedral. After a late lunch at the Gumbo Shop, we had to go by Pat O'Brien's to bring back some old memories.
After leaving Pat O'Brien's, we found our way to Bourbon Street and came upon Musical Legends Park where we relaxed with a drink and listened to some very good music. We turned around and walked the other way on Bourbon Street until we got to Esplanade Ave. where we turned left and walked to N. Rampart St. We turned right and after half a block we were back "home" by 6:00pm.
We grabbed our jackets, because it was cooling off, and retraced our last few steps and went around the corner to Buffa's Bar where we relaxed and shot the breeze for a couple of hours before heading back to the B&B.
That pretty well wraps it up for this first post of the 2017 New Orleans trip. Tomorrow, It's suppose to rain, so we're going to the WW II Museum It's supposed to be fabulous. Stay tuned!
