We made the 41 mile drive and arrived at Mueller State Park on Monday, June 18. Doug & Carol, who used to live in Decatur, IL when we did, came over and visited us at our campsite. Carol had cataract surgery on the 19th, so we did laundry and checked out the park.
On the afternoon of the 20th, we went to Doug & Carol's house, then went to the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument just down the road from their house. When we got back to their house, Doug threw some brats on the grill and we had a nice early dinner there.
Friday morning, 6/22, we met Doug & Carol at Bronco Billy's in Cripple Creek. I was feeling generous, so I picked up the tab. Check it out in the photos! We wandered around Cripple Creek for a while, then headed back to camp. On the way out of town, we stopped by the Cripple Creek Heritage Center where learned a lot about the mining history of the area. There was an art show on the lower level where there was a lot of expensive art for sale.

Saturday was the 87th annual Donkey Derby Days in Cripple Creek. We met Doug and Carol and their friends Gene and Linda to take in the attractions and festivities. The parade was unique and the donkey race was, uh, not exactly what I expected. After the parade and before the race, we had a nice lunch. After the race, we all went back to Doug & Carol's for a bit of socializing.
On Monday, the 25th, we met Jim Henricks in Johnson Village, on the way to Ridgway State Park for the AltoGather. We arrived at the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground that afternoon to see that many Altos were already there. We were in what looked like a basin with beautiful cliffs all around us.

So, there was the Meet & greet on Tuesday; the Favorite Mods session on Wednesday; Tech Talk on Thursday; Potluck on Saturday.
Thursday, my birthday, David and Rhea gave me a card and a pipe wrench for helping them with their wheel bearing problem. They also brought pastries to the Tech Talk session.
After the Tech Talk, Jim, Marsha and I went to Ouray for a bit of sight seeing. We had lunch and a couple of beers at the Ouray Brewery.
On Saturday, we passed through Ouray and went to Silverton, again, for lunch and a couple of beers, this time at the Golden Block. The drive was spectacular! There are 14 14ers (peaks over 14,000 feet) in Ouray County.
Sunday, we split with Jim and headed for Rocky Mountain National Park. Enjoy the pics.
