Didn't do much on Tuesday, our last day at Blue Spring State Park. After going to McDonald's to use their WiFi, we decided to stop in the Bravo International Market that we had past several times during our stay. It was interesting. I saw a Latin gentleman picking up some funny looking root stuff (there were several varieties) and I asked him how to prepare it. He recommended peeling and boiling. He said it was good and if you eat it, you'll live to be 100, so we bought some. See the pics.
After getting back from the store, we walked down to the Spring to say "good-bye" to the manatees. That evening, we grilled steaks, baked potato, and the root stuff over an open fire. the root stuff was kind of bland, so we sprinkled it with garlic powder. It was pretty good; about the consistency of a boiled potato.
Wednesday morning, we broke camp and took the slow route down to Long Point Park in Melbourne Beach. It's on an island across the Indian River from where my brother, Scot, lives. About four miles for the crow, almost twenty for a Ford. Our friends Jerry & Jane, from Annapolis, MD, were here when we arrived. We visited by the fire for a while and turned in for a good night's sleep.
Thursday morning, we putzed around before leaving at 11:00 for lunch at the Outrigger Bar and Grill, which is just down Hwy 1 from my brother's house. The have the best clam chowder there, but only on Thursdays, so I wanted to be sure to get some. When the four of us arrived at the Outrigger, we learned that the clam chowder isn't available until dinner time. It was being made when we arrived. Nuts! So we ate the regular menu fare, which was good.
After Lunch Jerry and Jane went to pick up some groceries, as did we, but then they went back to camp while we visited Sebastian Park and killed time before going back to the Outrigger for clam chowder. We got there about 4:00 and had a couple of beers while talking to other patrons at the bar. When the guy next to me was eating his clam chowder and the aroma was drifting across my nostrils, I couldn't take it any longer. I ordered a bowl of chowder. It was almost a sexual experience! Man, that stuff is good. I got Marsha to taste it and she said she might order some ... next year.
