I'm going to make this short because it was a long day, it's late and I'm tired. We left the B&B after breakfast around 10:00 and walked several blocks to the Old U.S. Mint. The first floor houses the mint's museum. The second floor is a museum of New Orleans' musical history with a special section dedicated to Louis "Sachmo" Armstrong. The third floor was a state of the art recording venue large enough for a small band and seats for about 75 people.
We toured the mint and the musical history floor until about 12:30. From there, we went to eat lunch at Central Market on Decatur Street, home of the original Muffuletta Sandwich. A whole sandwich is on a 12 inch diameter round bun! Marsha and I split a half sandwich and had plenty to eat.

After lunch, it was a leisurely stroll back to the mint for a 2:00 jazz concert by a student band from the Washington, D.C. area. They are here along with about 5,000 other jazz musicians for a big convention. At 3:30, we were entertained by three musicians playing a piano, a trombone and a sousaphone. They were REALLY good, especially the trombone player. Fabulous!
We then walked down to the Market Cafe for a warm caffeine drink, killing time until 5:30 when Irene's restaurant opened for dinner. It was very good food.
We heard that there was to be a parade coming near the restaurant at about 7:00, so we went outside in the 34 degree windy weather and walked a few blocks to wait for it. It finally showed up at about 7:55, just before my fingers froze off! The parade lasted about five minutes and we gladly walked about a mile back to the B&B. Boy, that was time well spent. Not!
