2012 - Oct 31-Nov 1 Monte Sano State Park and Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville

We actually traveled to Huntsville to attend the South Central Region Aline Owners Club Rally. We left home home on 10/31 figuring that the 500 mile trip would be an overnighter. The GPS said it was an eight hour trip and, even with several stops, it looked like we'd make it in nine hours, so we kept the peddle to the metal, so to speak.

We rolled into the park just a little more than 9 hours after leaving home. It was about 4:40pm. We got set up, started a fire and roasted some brats for dinner. I had a few beers and slept like a baby.

The rally doesn't start until Friday and we were the only ones here, so Thursday morning after breakfast, we headed to the US Space and Rocket Center. The museum was great and the bus tour of the Marshal Space Flight Center (NASA) and Redstone Arsenal (US Army) was really interesting. It's where they do a lot of development, testing and support of current missions.

We didn't leave until close to closing time (5:00) and could have spent a lot more time there. Lots of pictures. Enjoy!

2012 - Oct 17-21 Gathering of Aframes at Carlyle Lake, McNair Campground, IL

A few campers, including ours, arrived on Wednesday, the day before the official start of the rally. The campground was first-come-first-served after October 1 and there were about six sites available when we arrived. Knowing that we were expecting about 15 campers, we were starting to get nervous. By Thursday afternoon, a few of our group arrived and a few sites opened up. The last of 14 Aframes arrived and got set up, leaving one open site available! It was a bit tight, but we made it.

It rained off and on all day Thursday, so we just hung around camp and visited. The rain let up that evening, so we were able to cook brats over the campfire and sit around it later in the evening.

Friday brought more rain, so Loren, Cindy, Marsha and I went to Centralia and saw "Taken 2" at the local theater. It was a good, action packed way to stay in out of the rain.

Saturday, the weather was sunny and pleasant. We had rescheduled the potluck from Friday to that evening based on the weather forecast. Good call!

Sunday morning, the sun was out and the weather was so nice that we contemplated staying another day, but it's a good thing we didn't. We would have had to pack up and drive home in the rain storm on Monday.

All in all, it was a good time - in spite of the weather.
