We ate breakfast and left Sarova Shaba, stopped at a curio shop, and arrived at Sweetwaters Tented Camp around noon. There is a pond in back of the compound, so we saw many animals in the area.
We went on an afternoon game drive and visited the Chimpanzee Sanctuary where they care for orphaned and abandoned chimps. Chimps are not native to Kenya, but Jane Goodall founded 18 sanctuaries here.
We went to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest black rhino sanctuary in all of east Africa. There we saw Baraka, a black rhino whose right eye was punctured in a fight. His other eye has cataracts, so he is now blind. He will remain in the sanctuary for the rest of his life
We went on a night game drive where the highlight was when we were actually surrounded by a pride of more than a dozen lions who were hunting. Fantastic! The pictures aren't very good because of the lighting, but the experience was unforgettable.
We didn't get back from the night game drive until about 11:00. It was a long day, but worth it.
