2014 April 5 - Celery Hill and the Sun-N-Fun

This morning, before it got too hot, we drove a couple of miles to Celery Hill, as it's called by the locals. The hill was built from the dirt that was dug out of the old celery fields to make drainage ponds to hold the runoff during the rainy season. If the ponds overflow, they empty into a canal that eventually makes its way into the Gulf of Mexico.

On the way back to Sun-N-Fun, we stopped at Detwiler's Farm Market for ice cream and fruit. That place was really crowded with people. They had a nice selection of fresh fruit, nuts, candy, etc.

The rest of the pics are to give you a look at the pool area at Sun-N-Fun. The osprey nest was outside the park, but I took the picture from one of the tables by the pool.

This is our last day in the park. Tomorrow, we'll get up early and head for home. It's been a great trip!

2014 April 4 - Papa Nick's and the Sun-N-Fun poolside

Norm and Dottie, Art's neighbors, arrived early this morning and we all went to Papa Nick's for breakfast. After breakfast, Marsha and I went to Target to pick up some bottled water, then headed back to the car wash at Sun-N-Fun to wash almost 3 months of crud off the car.

Then we all headed for the pool area and after a short dip, sat around shooting the breeze and drinking pitchers. We headed back to camp where the Screenroom Bar opened up and it was cocktail and snacks time.

Tomorrow, we're all going on a hike. That should be interesting!

2014 April 3 - Arrived at Sun-N-Fun RV Resort; Lightning Strikes at Home

Only two pics today. One of the sign in front of the Sun and Fun RV Resort where we're camping for three days with Uncle Art and Aunt Joe before heading for home on Sunday.

The other pic was sent to me my our neighbor, Bev. Seems that the Bald Cypress tree on the west end of the house was hit by lightening during a storm early this morning. Bev said the tree is not split, but the bark was blown off the side of the tree along the lightning's path. We'll be checking it closely when we get home.

2014 April 1 - Around Myakka River SP

We got a late start today, but it sure was good sleeping! Beautiful day! We went down the road to the Outpost camp store to use the WiFi and get some firewood.

After lunch, we drove the twenty miles to the grocery store. After we got back, I started a fire and waited for the coals to get ready to grill the burgers. I took a few pics before, during and after dinner. Enjoy!

2014 Mar 31 - Around Myakka River SP

We spent most of the day over at Uncle Art & Aunt Jo's house. No pictures from there.

We got back to the park around 2:30 and rode the bikes to the Outpost and used the WiFi. After dropping the computer back at the camper, we rode a couple of miles down the road and took some pictures. We got back to camp, dropped the bikes off, and walked around a bit. Simple supper in the microwave.

That was our day!

2014 April 2 - Owls, Birds, and Gators

We made it to the coffee social this morning by 9:10. Took a pic of a cool looking trike in the parking lot. We took a walk down the trail from the coffee social and came upon the spot where a gator was stalking us last year. See the pics in the 2014 Florida Trip section.

Marsha heard about a mother owl and two chicks hanging out in the park, so we rode the bikes 3.6 miles to see them. They were very calm and didn't seem to mind us, along with several other people, taking pictures of them. We rode back past camp and on to the concession area where we had some ice cream and hung out for a while.

We came back to camp for cocktails and I started a fire and grilled a large steak which we split for dinner. Then, right on schedule, the sun set again.

Tomorrow, we'll make the 15 mile drive to Sun and Fun RV Resort to spend our last three nights in Florida camping with Marsha's Uncle Art and Aunt Jo. See you there!
