We hit the road in good time this morning and Got to Hershey, PA for lunch at Parkside Bar & Grill about 11:30. Since it's parkside, it was a short drive to Hershey World. We enjoyed all of that we could stand in less than two hours (what a zoo!), so we headed west on the PA Turnpike.
Marsha looked up Laurel Hill State Park and it turned out to be only about ten miles off the turnpike. We got here a little after 5:00, but we still ended up eating dinner in the dark. It could have been because we had visitors who wanted to see inside those "cute" campers. We sat around the campfire for a while after dinner, then headed inside where it was warm.
We're still over 600 miles from home, so we'll probably camp one more night before we get there.
If the picture of our campsite in Promised Land State Park looks familiar, it's because we camped in the same campsite on our way to New Hampshire last week. We left Field & Stream Campground in Brookline, NH this morning. We ate breakfast at the Yankee Chef restaurant, recommended by the campground owner. It was delicious.
After we left Brookline, Lucy (our GPS) wanted us to stick to the super slabs so we could make good time and maybe get to Hershey, PA today, but we decided to take the scenic route. After we had enjoyed about as much "scenic" as we could stand, we jumped back on the super slab and decided we could make it to Promised Land State Park (about 25 miles east of Scranton, PA) to camp for the night.
We got here a little after six o'clock, got set up and fired up the gas grill to cook burgers. The scalloped potatoes, beans, tomatoes, etc. made a great meal. After dinner, we cleaned up the mess and retired to our campers for the night. So here I am, typing my blog entry, even though there is no Internet access here.
I'll post yesterday's and today's entries next time I have a WiFi connection.
We left the campground this morning at about 8:10. The first three hours of travel down the coast were beautiful. Even the loop toward the west to avoid Portland was very colorful. But before we got to Freeport, the sky's opened up and it rained for the rest of the day.
We stopped in Freeport for a couple of hours to visit L. L. Bean's "flagship store" and grab a burger for lunch, then it was south and west to Brookline, NH and the Field & Stream Campground. The rain let up a bit while we were setting up, so that helped.
We got the camper set up and relaxed for a while before leaving for the Colony Tavern in Nashua, about 15 miles away, to have dinner with my cousin, Anne Elizabeth. We had a nice dinner and went to Anne's house to visit before returning to the campground.
Tomorrow, it's on toward Hershey, PA by way of Vermont, so that Loretta can say she's been in all of the 48 contiguous states.

A good portion of Mt. Desert Island is taken up by Acadia National Park. As we drove the Loop Road and wandered about the island today, we entered and exited the park several times. The scenery was beautiful even though the word is that the leaf colors won't peak here for another week.
We ate lunch at the Jordan Pond House, They are famous for their popovers, a baked, crusty on the outside, flaky on the inside muffin best eaten with butter and Maine Strawberry Preserves spread throughout. Really good! I had Lobster Quiche. Marsha had Crab Cakes. Joe had some kind of salad. Loretta had Vegetable Quiche. All of the food, and the service, was excellent.

We left Glen Ellis RV Park this morning about 9:00. Shortly thereafter, we were stuck in traffic for about an hour due to an agricultural fair in a small town about two miles from where we finally turned off our route and followed a detour plotted by Lucy, our GPS. Believe it or not, it worked! A few mile out of our way, but at least we were moving.
We covered about 224 miles today and got into Smuggler's Den Campground on Desert Island (same island where Bar Harbor is located) at about 5:00. Nice place!
We went to eat at the Captain's Galley, located right on the water about 2.5 miles down the road. Nice little place with a casual atmosphere and good seafood. The fishing boats unload right there. There is a seafood processing plant attached to the back of the restaurant, so the seafood is fresh.
Just a few pics today. Probably more tomorrow as we go exploring the island.
We left the campground around 11:00 and headed, more or less, west to the town of Lincoln, NH where we ate lunch at Bill & Bob's Famous Roast Beef place. It's a little shack of a building with minimal inside seating and a bunch more outside. Good roast beef!
We spent the day just wandering around the mountains taking pictures. Got back to the campground around 3:30. Tomorrow, we head east to Acadia National Park in Maine. See you there!
